Who are we?

The Re Love It Store is a social enterprise operated by Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS), a 30-year old Canadian charity operating in Whistler, British Columbia. We support and advocate for a healthy community and operate as a social enterprise. A social enterprise functions like many other businesses, but with socio economic and socio environmental goals at its core. At WCSS, 100% of funds generated from our social enterprise are reinvested back into our community. Every purchase and donation helps support our 26 social programs (like the Food Bank and mental health services), manage operating costs, and provide meaningful employment. Beyond funding our non-profit, every contribution ensures we provide affordable goods and services to our evolving community, while helping dramatically reduce our community carbon footprint by giving preloved items a chance to be Re Loved!

What is Social Enterprise?

A donation? Where does the money go?

Living in a resort town can be a once in a lifetime experience, but from time to time, our community members need support. Living far from home and family support, Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) is here to fill the gap. All sales generated from our Re Love It store go directly to WCSS, a registered Canadian charity operating in Whistler, BC. Whether you’re a long-time local or weekend warrior, each time a customer makes a purchase, these sales help to fund invaluable support for our community. WCSS operates 26 barrier-free social programs, including but not limited to: Whistler Food Bank, Outreach Services, legal and financial assistance, and more. Why open an online store?

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, WCSS felt a sharp rise in community need: within weeks, the Food Bank went from serving roughly 50 people per week, to over 500. With the closure of the Re Use It and Re Build It stores (our economic engine), we had to revisit our funding model for the first time in 20 years so we could serve a growing demand for social and mental health services and meet community members where they were at.

Building an online store in addition to our two retail storefronts provides WCSS an opportunity to accept more donations, sell more product, and reduce what may otherwise end up in landfill. By expanding through a digital store, we hope to offer an online experience for those who love second-hand or one-of-a-kind items: no sifting through the racks required! Our curated collection of donated vintage, unique, and designer finds showcases the generosity and unique personality of our Whistler community.

Whether you're going to your day job, heading out for après, or dressing up for a special occasion, visit Re Love It Store for unique, second-hand treasures and shop with good conscience. Preloved fashion looks good, is sustainable, and supports the community!

What is a circular economy and how does this relate to the Re Love It Store?

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.

In practice, waste is reduced to a minimum. When a product reaches the end of its life, its materials are kept within the economy. These can be productively used again and again, thereby creating further value. It includes products that have been loved by one person, and are reloved by someone else, rather than being tossed.

This is a smart departure from the traditional, linear economic model, which is based on a take-make-consume-throw away pattern. In fact, there is no ‘away’. Things that end up in a landfill have a huge environmental and social cost. This model relies on large quantities of cheap, easily accessible materials and energy.

By having a great selection of donated products at Re Love It, Re Use It and Re Build It stores, we hope to inspire our community to rethink their consumption. We believe in a future where we not only reduce, reuse and recycle, but we repair, regift, recover, and or refuse. We also believe in supporting the community by keeping our spending within our local economy.

Why doesn’t my postal code work at check out?

As of September 2018, Canada Post changed the postal codes within the Whistler area to accommodate for expansion of the community. Some customers have noted that when entering their new postal code at check out our service platform does not recognize this. We have spoken to our service provider to ask for their system to update, but at this time if you are experiencing difficulty when entering your postal code, we recommend using the “old” Whistler postal code for your area. If you are still having trouble don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at reloveit@mywcss.org.

Product measurement

Products from different eras and brands do not all fit in the same way. To give the most accurate description of the product details and expected fit, Re Love It provides the following:

  • Tag size
  • Waist
  • Length - measured from top of shoulder to the hem of the item)
  • Gender - it is important to note that we include this in our description to provide accurate sizing details. We believe fashion is for everyone, a method to play and express ourselves, a space where non-binary boundaries apply. Come as you are, shop to your style, and share your unique look!

Wear & Tear

Shopping second hand is exciting, never knowing what exactly you're going to find. Items are unique, and tell a story about the people and culture of its time. With that second hand, and specifically vintage items can be expected to have signs of wear, or “lived experience”. Items may include holes, fraying, tears, stains etc... but we’ve listed these items in our store as we think they deserve a second life. Re Love It will always do our best to document this in our photos and or product descriptions, but if you have questions or would like further information please don’t hesitate to email us at reloveit@mywcss.org

Pick up & Shipping

At this time time all products are being sold under the condition of pick up only. Pick up will be from our Re Use it Centre located at 8000 Nesters Road Whistler BC

Not based in Whistler and would like your item shipped? Please contact us directly at reloveit@mywcss.org and we’ll get a quote for shipping. NOTE: shipping cost is the responsibility of the customer and added to your total.

Taxes

As a thrift store, some products have tax exemptions unlike other retail stores that sell new products. You may notice this at checkout. Clothing, shoes and accessories less than $99 are tax exempt, whereas items over $100 are subject to provincial sales tax (7% PST).
